DEARBORN, Mo. (AP) ? The search is on for the country's newest multimillionaires, the holders of two tickets that matched all six numbers to split a record $588 million Powerball jackpot.

Lottery officials said Thursday that the winning tickets matching all six numbers were sold at a convenience store in suburban Phoenix and a gas station just off an interstate highway in a small northwestern Missouri town. Neither ticket holder had come forward.

The mystery fueled a giddy mood at the Trex Mart just outside Dearborn, Mo., as lottery officials and the media descended on the town of 500 people.

Cashiers Kristi Williams and Kelly Blount greeted customers with big smiles and questions about whether they had bought the winning ticket. No one had come forward to claim the prize by late Thursday morning, Missouri Lottery officials said.

"It's just awesome," Williams said. "It's so exciting. We can't even work."

Karen Meyers, a server at the Cook's Corner Cafe, where the daily special was roast beef and potatoes, said she didn't believe it at first when she heard the winning ticket had been sold nearby.

"I think it's wonderful! I hope someone local won it, not someone just passing through," she said. "It's a small town where everyone is really nice."

Kevin Bryan bought his ticket at the Trex Mart and made an extra trip to his mother's home in Dearborn to verify that the ticket he left on her counter wasn't, in fact, the winner.

"When I heard it was sold here in Dearborn I about fell over," Bryan said, as he hung Christmas lights outside his mother's home.

He said the only other local lottery win he could remember was when an area farmer won about $100,000 in scratch-off game years ago "and bought himself a combine."

The winning ticket sold in Arizona was purchased at a 4 Sons Food Store in Fountain Hills, state lottery officials said. Customers poured into the store, to check their tickets and share in the big moment.

"I think it's crazy, and I also think it's great," said Bob Chebat, who manages the 4 Sons. "I'm glad that all that work yesterday wasn't for nothing."

The store was swept up in a nationwide ticket-buying spree preceding Wednesday's drawing, with the big money enticing many people who rarely, if ever, play the lottery to buy a shot at the payout.

Clerks at 4 Sons sold 986 Powerball tickets Wednesday, which Chebat said was well above average.

Baron Hartell, son of the owner of the Missouri store, said if the winner isn't a local resident it might have been a truck driver. Interstate 29 connects Kansas City to the Canadian border, so it's a busy thoroughfare in both directions.

"Even the truck drivers who come around, we see them every day, so they all feel like all locals to us," he said.

Store manager Chris Naurez said business had been "crazy" for Powerball tickets lately and that the store had sold about $27,000 worth of tickets in the last few days.

"This really puts Dearborn on the map," he said.

Kenny Gilbert, the general manager of Trex Mart, suggested his staff would be sharing in the $50,000 bounty that the store will be awarded for selling one of the winning tickets.

"The response from the owner was, 'I guess we'll be able to give out Christmas bonuses,'" Gilbert said. "That's nice, especially at this time of year."

It appeared the winners had yet to come forward, and it wasn't clear if the tickets had been bought by individuals or groups. Winners have 180 days to claim their share of the prize money.

The numbers drawn Wednesday night were 5, 16, 22, 23, 29. The Powerball was 6. The $587.5 million payout represents the second-largest jackpot in U.S. history.

"If you find you're holding the winning ticket, be sure you sign the back and put it in a safe place until you can take it to a Missouri Lottery office," said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. "You will also want to get some legal and financial advice before you claim."

Americans went on a ticket-buying spree in the run-up to Wednesday's drawing, the big money enticing many people who rarely, if ever, play the lottery to purchase a shot at the second-largest payout in U.S. history.

Tickets sold at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide ? about six times the volume from a week ago. That pushed the jackpot even higher, said Chuck Strutt, executive director of the Multi-State Lottery Association. The jackpot rolled over 16 consecutive times without a winner.

In a Mega Millions drawing in March, three ticket buyers shared a $656 million jackpot. This remains the largest lottery payout of all time.

First-ever hyperspectral images of Earth's auroras: New camera provides tantalizing clues of new atmospheric phenomenon

ScienceDaily (Nov. 29, 2012) ? Hoping to expand our understanding of auroras and other fleeting atmospheric events, a team of space-weather researchers designed and built NORUSCA II, a new camera with unprecedented capabilities that can simultaneously image multiple spectral bands, in essence different wavelengths or colors, of light. The camera was tested at the Kjell Henriksen Observatory (KHO) in Svalbard, Norway, where it produced the first-ever hyperspectral images of auroras -- commonly referred to as "the Northern (or Southern) Lights" -- and may already have revealed a previously unknown atmospheric phenomenon.

Details on the camera and the results from its first images were published November 29 in the Optical Society's (OSA) open-access journal Optics Express.

Auroras, nature's celestial fireworks, are created when charged particles from the Sun penetrate Earth's magnetic field. These shimmering displays in the night sky reveal important information about the Earth-Sun system and the way our planet responds to powerful solar storms. Current-generation cameras, however, are simply light buckets -- meaning they collect all the light together into one image -- and lack the ability to separately capture and analyze multiple slivers of the visible spectrum. That means if researchers want to study auroras by looking at specific bands or a small portion of the spectrum they would have to use a series of filters to block out the unwanted wavelengths.

The new NORUSCA II hyperspectral camera achieves the same result without any moving parts, using its advanced optics to switch among all of its 41 separate optical bands in a matter of microseconds, orders of magnitude faster than an ordinary camera. This opens up new possibilities for discovery by combining specific bands of the same ethereal phenomenon into one image, revealing previously hidden details.

"A standard filter wheel camera that typically uses six interference filters will not be able to spin the wheel fast enough compared to the NORUSCA II camera," said Fred Sigernes of the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), Norway. "This makes the new hyperspectral capability particularly useful for spectroscopy, because it can detect specific atmospheric constituents by their unique fingerprint, or wavelengths, in the light they emit."

These spectral signatures can then reveal subtle changes in atmospheric behavior, such as the ionization of gases during auroras. This form of multispectral imaging also will enable scientists to better classify auroras from background sky emissions and study the way they cluster in the atmosphere.

A New Phenomenon

On Jan. 24, 2012, during the inaugural research campaign of NORUSCA II, a major solar flare jettisoned a burst of high-energy particles known as a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). The CME eventually slammed into Earth's magnetic field, producing magnificent auroras and a chance to fully test the new camera.

The researchers were able to image the aurora in unprecedented clarity through a layer of low altitude clouds, which would have thwarted earlier-generation instruments (see Image 1). The camera also revealed something unexpected -- a very faint wave pattern of unknown origin in the lower atmosphere (see Image 2). The wave pattern resembles "airglow" -- the natural emission of light by Earth's atmosphere. Airglow can be produced by a variety of known sources, including cosmic rays striking the upper atmosphere and chemical reactions. Its concurrent appearance with the aurora suggests that it may also be caused by a previously unrecognized source.

"After the January CME, we think we saw an auroral-generated wave interaction with airglow," said Sigernes. This would be an entirely new phenomenon and if confirmed, would be the first time airglow has been associated with auroras.

"Our new all-sky camera opens up new frontiers of discovery and will help in the detection of auroras and the understanding of how our Sun impacts the atmosphere here on Earth. Additional development and commissioning will also hopefully verify our intriguing first results," concludes Sigernes.

I have maxed pretax 401k contributions, should I ... - Roth IRA News

Basically I see 3 options here. And one is the standout.

Here?s why I say that.

Since you?ve maxed out your contributions to the 401, you have basically these 3 options.
1. Put taxable money into the 401 at work
2. Put the money into a conventional IRA (But, at your income, you probably wouldn?t get the tax deductions.)
3. Put the money in a Roth IRA and pay taxes on it once.

Personally, for this situation, the 401 at work would be my last choice, simply because it limits what you can invest the $$ into to what?s offered in your company?s plan. There are simply a LOT more options elsewhere that can get you some pretty serious returns. And, overall, putting the money somewhere other than the 401 gives you more diversification.

Plus, if you put over contributions into the 401, that?s all got to be tracked and accounted for somewhat differently than your normal contributions, etc. So, if you ever leave that employeer (which you?re likely to do) and rollover that 401, then there?s more paperwork to consider, ?..That?s just a headache, not a mojor consideration. But, when taken in light of what?s next.

So, that leaves the two IRA choices.

Optimally, I would say the Roth.
1. With that Roth you pay taxes this year on the money you put in, but never pay taxes again on any of the gains or withdrawals. That can add up to a really big tax savings over a couple decades.
Case in point. Say you have 5K to drop into the Roth this year. If you have 20 years to go until retirement and that money gets 10% a year, it will grow to 33+K. I?d rather pay the taxes on it when it?s 5K. (With a conventional IRA you don?t pay the taxes on the 5K , but do later on the 33K. You do the math. And like I said, you probably would not be able to deduct the conventional IRA contributions anyhow.)

2. With a Roth, once it?s been around more than 5 years, you can actually take out your contributions ( not the gains?.) without paying any taxes or penalties on them, since you already paid the taxes the year you contributed them. Which gives you a little more flexibility if you want it. And you can?t do this with a conventional IRA.

Kick it around. Just some food for thought.

Blue Skies Live Wallpaper updated for Android 4.2 Daydreams

Blue Skies

There's not a lot to see here -- that's the Blue Skies live wallpaper I've been using for some time now. What's new is that it's been updated to serve as a sort of screen save as part of the Android 4.2 full-screen "Daydreams" feature. So when you plug in your phone, you can enjoy the same beautiful sky as when it's sitting in your hand.

Expect to see more live wallpapers do this, we reckon, and don't forget to check to see if your favorite widgets have been updated to work on the Android 4.2 lock screen.

Apple has asked a federal court to add six more products to its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung,?including the Samsung Galaxy Note II, in the latest in move in an ongoing legal war between the two companies.

The case is one of two patent infringement lawsuits pending in the U.S. District Court in San Jose by Apple against Samsung. An earlier lawsuit by Apple that related to different patents resulted in a $1.05 billion jury verdict against Samsung on Aug. 24.

Apple is also seeking to add the Samsung Galaxy S III, running the new Android "Jelly Bean" operating system, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, the Samsung Rugby Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S III Mini, to its lawsuit, according to a court filing on Friday.

"Apple has acted quickly and diligently to determine that these newly-released products do infringe many of the same claims already asserted by Apple," the company said in the filing.

Samsung representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Apple filed the second lawsuit in February, alleging that various Samsung smartphone and tablet products including the Galaxy Nexus infringed eight of its patents.

Samsung denied infringement and filed a cross-complaint alleging that Apple's iPhone and iPad infringed eight of its patents.

A U.S. judge on Nov. 15 allowed Samsung to pursue claims the iPhone?5 also infringes its patents.

The case is Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. et al, No. 12-cv-00630.

European lawmaker Strasser on trial for corruption

VIENNA (Reuters) - Disgraced Austrian politician Ernst Strasser goes on trial on Monday in a corruption case that has undermined trust in European and Austrian institutions.

The former Austrian interior minister and European lawmaker could face 10 years in jail if convicted, after being caught on camera offering to propose amendments to European laws in exchange for 100,000 euros ($130,000 a year).

Strasser, 56, was exposed last year by undercover journalists from Britain's Sunday Times posing as lobbyists. He resigned while denying wrongdoing, saying he wanted to protect his party, the Austrian conservative OVP.

"Of course I am a lobbyist," he told the journalists in a secretly filmed video. "This is a wonderful opportunity to learn all the people, to have my own network, and to use this network for my, for my companies. It's a very good combination."

Strasser, one of several once-mighty Austrian politicians brought down by recent corruption scandals, told the journalists he already had five such clients.

He later said in an interview he went along with the "lobbyists" because he believed they were secret service agents and he wanted to follow their trail.

The trial in Vienna comes as European politicians battle to keep faith with the post-war ideals of European integration and rejection of extreme nationalism that led to the founding of what would become the European Union more than 60 years ago.

As the 27 nation bloc struggles to contain a debt crisis, a gulf is widening between more affluent countries and poorer members like Greece, which faces expulsion from the euro zone if it does not maintain a course of harsh austerity measures.

Euroscepticism and nationalism are on the rise in many European countries. In Britain, which has always had a difficult relationship with its continental partners, talk that it could leave the EU has begun to shift from the fringes to the center of political debate.

Less than half of the EU's half a billion citizens voted in the last European Parliament elections in 2009, and a poll last year found that 26 percent had a negative image of the parliament, up from 17 percent three years earlier.

"Most European parliamentarians are as lazy as I am," Strasser told the Sunday Times journalists.

Three other European lawmakers were caught by the Sunday Times sting operation: Romania's Adrian Severin, Slovenia's Zoran Thaler and Spain's Pablo Zalba Bidegain.

Thaler resigned after the scandal but the other two still sit in parliament.

Eight days have been allotted for Strasser's trial, which begins at 0700 GMT and has drawn wide international interest. ($1 = 0.7717 euros)

Ichiro wants?to stay with Yankees

Ichiro is drawing interest in free agency following a resurgent final two months of the season, but his agent, Tony Attanasio, told George A. King III of the New York Post that the veteran outfielder would like to stay with the Yankees. In fact, he?s willing to wait out contract talks with Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera if need be.

?They are going after pitching first which is what the Yankees normally do,?? Tony Attanasio, Ichiro?s well-respected agent, said yesterday. ?There has been a lot of interest [from teams], but he enjoyed playing for the Yankees so much it?s hard for him to say no to the Yankees. His preference is to stay there instead of going someplace else, but we will wait and see.??

Nick Swisher is also a free agent, so the Yankees have a void in right field at the moment, but hard to see them committing to Ichiro and Brett Gardner as full-time players next season. While it would give them one of the best defensive outfields in the majors, they will likely want some more punch in their lineup. With that in mind, King hears that the Yankees have talked with Scott Hairston?s agent and aren?t against bringing back Raul Ibanez.

Ichiro, 39, batted .322 with five home runs and a .794 OPS in 67 games after coming over from the Mariners in July. Still, he would need to take a steep pay cut from the $17 million he made this past season in order to remain with the Bombers.

Sunderland beats 10-man Fulham 3-1 in EPL

By STEVE DOUGLAS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 4:18 p.m. ET Nov. 18, 2012

LONDON (AP) -Struggling Sunderland capitalized on the early sending-off of Brede Hangeland to beat Fulham 3-1 on Sunday, earning only its second Premier League win and easing its worries at the bottom of the table.

Steven Fletcher, Carlos Cuellar and Stephane Sessegnon all scored in the second half for the visitors while Fulham was down to 10 men, with Hangeland given a straight red card for a reckless 30th-minute tackle.

Substitute Mladen Petric equalized in the 62nd minute for the mid-table home side but it couldn't hang on at Craven Cottage, with a bad day made worse by game-ending hamstring injuries to Sweden winger Alex Kacaniklic and Costa Rica playmaker Bryan Ruiz either side of halftime.

The victory lifted Sunderland three points clear of the bottom three, with Fletcher grabbing his sixth goal of the season.

Hangeland's contentious dismissal was a game-changer but was probably justified as the Norway defender leapt in rashly - and studs-first - on midfielder Lee Cattermole, even though his feet were on the floor when contact was made with the ball.

"I thought the referee was the only person in the ground who thought it was a red card ... (although) by the letter of the law, it was a red," Fulham manager Martin Jol said.

Fulham, looking to climb to seventh with a win, had been on top by that point but the sending-off of its captain and defensive lynchpin gave Sunderland a perfect opportunity to end its five-match winless run.

"A sending-off changes the dynamic of a game," Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill said. "We had to take advantage of that, and I thought we did. I was pleased for us to score some goals, pleased to win away from home."

O'Neill's team came into the match as the lowest-scoring side in the league but has been kept out of the relegation zone by Fletcher, who opened the scoring in the 50th when he ran on to Adam Johnson's fine through-ball and slipped a low finish past Mark Schwarzer.

Petric equalized by turning in Damien Duff's cross and Fulham continued to create chances, only for Cuellar to reclaim the lead for Sunderland by heading in Johnson's left-wing corner. That goal was scored Fulham briefly down to nine men while Petric was receiving treatment on a deep gash in his shin.

Sessegnon made the game safe when the Benin forward smashed in a swerving shot from 25 yards, his first goal of the season - although visiting goalkeeper Simon Mignolet made superb saves from Petric and Steve Sidwell late on.

It was only Sunderland's second win in its past 19 matches.

Video Marketing Tactics You May Not Know | joealdegueronline.com

There?s a possibility you may have noticed threads on some marketing forums talking about how easy it is to rank videos and how good they are at driving traffic to offers. You may have even created a few videos but your results were not too impressive. Subsequently, if you are like many web marketers, you simply stopped, deciding this wasn?t the best approach for you. However, what you need to keep in mind is that it?s natural for the first few tries not to be successful. It requires some practice and a little perseverance for you to get better and start seeing better results. You need to learn as much as you can about video marketing as well as how to make videos people will enjoy watching. You can learn a few video marketing ideas in this article to kickstart your new efforts.

For numerous reasons, there are many internet marketers and businesses that do not use video marketing. This is most likely because they really are a little intimidated by it. The thing about this is they all can boost their marketing on all levels with video. So, the best tip would be to test it out first.

Just have an open mind and create some promotional videos. You can start out by taking advantage of the free resources that are at your disposal. Your company does not have a good excuse for forgoing videos. Also, you do not have to be in any of them. Once you see that they are simple to create, making them will not scare you anymore.

A good way to ensure that your videos are fresh and different is to bring people on them that are also fresh and different. This can have a big impact on things and the following is one of the things that you can do to see it through. You can pick out some of your best blog comments and transform them into interesting videos. Be sure you mention their names, and then you can respond to them.

You might want to go over a few of the comments that were made in detail. If you have any kind of feedback, then you can do this and make it work very well. In this particular situation, even bad feedback is useful. This will teach people that you are not scared of it.

Keep in mind that you can use plenty of your current webpages as a video. One such page is the FAQ page. This isn?t hard to do at all. All you have to do is turn the text into a video. Or, try talking and answering questions.

This is a good excuse if you want to be in the video. Think about how seriously people will take a FAQ page. Because it has to do with you, it is possible to have the same type of video with your About page. You might want to try this because it would lend more credibility to what you are doing. Even if all three tips cannot be immediately useful to you, or implemented right away, we feel you can use at least one or two of them. But always remember that practically all businesses on the web can typically absorb more marketing diversity. We tend to think the majority of small business owners become complacent and especially once they begin earning decent profits. We have personally seen this happen to very many people based on forum discussions as well as personal acquaintances in business. Sure, you can take buyer arbitrage and maybe get to the point where you do not have to work all day at it, but just think of all the money you are walking away from by not expanding your efforts. There are too many very real dangers in IM, and they all have to do with the fluid nature of it as well as all the other people vying for your business share.

Boredom is common complaint regarding many marketing and operational tasks. There is some truth to this but creating your own videos and doing video marketing is something completely different. There?s a lot of creativity that goes into video creation which is what makes it so much more fun than other tactics. Your creative powers will awaken thanks to the whole process of making videos. When you are able to do this you will find anything you are working on a lot more enjoyable and a lot less boring.

Super Bowl winning player and coach Mike Ditka was taken to hospital after a minor stroke on Friday and will be rested from his usual weekend television commitments.

Ditka, 73, was playing cards at a suburban country club when he noticed his hands ?weren?t working quite right? and then he had a problem speaking, the Chicago Tribune reported.

?I feel good right now and it?s not a big deal,? Ditka said.

The hugely popular coach was at the helm of the Chicago Bears for their 1985 Super Bowl winning season and remains the most beloved by Bears fans.

Ditka was a five-time Pro Bowl selection at tight end while playing at the Bears between 1961-66 before moving on to the Philadelphia Eagles and then the Dallas Cowboys, where he featured in the Super Bowl VI triumph.

He was later assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys when they won Super Bowl XII.

Ditka suffered a heart attack while coaching the Bears in 1988 but returned to work within a week.
