TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) ? U.S. Rep. Ron Barber has held his first "Congress on Your Corner" event in Tucson, the same type of event at which he and his former boss, Gabrielle Giffords, were shot and nearly killed in a mass shooting on Jan. 8, 2011.
Barber spokesman Mark Kimble said about 200 people showed up Saturday outside a Tucson grocery store as temperatures topped 100 degrees. Weather delays in Washington, D.C., delayed the event from the morning.
Kimble says visitors ranged from other survivors of the mass shooting and well-wishers to people who had concerns about the federal government.
A gunman shot then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others outside a different Tucson grocery store about a year-and-a-half ago, killing six and wounding 13.
Barber won a special election to replace Giffords this month.
