TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)__ Helping Hands Humane Society has dreamed of this day for years. And now it is finally here.
Staffers and volunteers made the transition into the new building Saturday (01/05) and are glad they did. This day has been long anticipated and couldn't come soon enough.
The Humane Society building on Rochester Road was opened in the 1950's and with the increasing number of animals coming in, they out-grew the space. The new facility has all the amenities the old one did not, such as air conditioning and of course more space.
The former Dillon's Grocery Store that sits at 21st and Belle now houses nearly 300 animals that are in need of adoption. Although the shelter will be closed until the 8th of Jan. they request that no animals be brought to the old shelter and that if you have a stray or need to relinquish an animal, you may do so by calling Animal Control.
HHHS is also very excited to be moving into their new home debt free. Through numerous generous donations and adoptions, they were able to reach their goal for the new building.
Make sure to stop by to see the new home to HHHS on Jan. 8 and adopt a furry friend in need of a forever family.
The grand opening will be held this spring.
